Nagasaki Kunchi, the autumn festival of Suwa
shrine, is known as one of the three great
festivals of Japan. It is said that two prostitute/
harlot dedicated their dancing for the god of
Suwa shine in 1634 is the beginning of this
festival. Today, we see many of performances
which reflect the international culture and unique
history of Nagasaki. The dedicated dancing can be found throughout the central
part of Nagasaki, while holding informal performances.
In the events...
・Niwamise (3rd October, evening):
Showing costume and instruments that can be see in festival
・Niizoroi (4th October, around 1pm):
Rehearsal for the people in performers town.
・Okudari (7th) and Onobori (9th):
Carrying 3 portable shrines and run up/down long stairs of Suwa shrine
The official stage of Kunchi. (Need to pay for seats)
・Jun hon basyo (at Chuo park and station square):
Quasi stage. (Free to see)
・Niwasaki mawari (Informal performance throughout towns):
Peformers will show their dance to people in town.
・Otabisho (at Ohato):
3 portable shrines can be seen. People go there to pray.
・Food stalls at Ohato:
Many food stalls make festival's atmosphere!
・And many more events will be held in the festival.

Also, the sound which is mixed with Japanese, Chinese and Dutch is one of the attractive point of this festival.
